West Indies vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI – Tri-Nation Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The first match of the Celkon Mobile Cup Tri-nation One day series in West Indies will be played between the hosts West Indies (WI) and Sri Lanka on Friday June 28, 2013. The match will be played at Kingston and will start at 8 PM IST. The third team to participate in the series is India.

West Indies

The Caribbean side has some great players in the side and can also be called as match winners who can turn on the game anytime. Led by Dwayne Bravo, the team has one of the most powerful hitters of the cricket, Chris Gayle as one of the openers in their side. There are other batsmen such as Darren Bravo, Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard and Marlon Sameuls who have already shown what they are capable of in the IPL that concluded recently. In terms of bowling, they will depend a lot on the mystery bowling of Sunil Naraine who has been one of the successful bowlers recently. He is well supported by other bowlers, especially Kemar Roach and Ravi Rampaul who are also good fast bowlers and are capable of taking wickets at crucial times.

Sri Lanka

The Lankan side is being led by the all rounder Angelo Matthews and will rely a lot on the experienced duo of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumara Sangakkara in terms of batting. The team is playing without their star opener Tillakratne Dilshan as he is injured and so lot will depend on other batsmen such as Upul Tharanga, Jeevan Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal and the skipper to play well for the team. The bowling looks pretty strong with Lasitha Malinga leading the speed attack and accompanied by Nuwan Kulasekera. The spin department is equally strong with combination of Ajantha Mendis, Sachithra Senanayake and Rangana Herath in the side. Overall the side looks pretty balanced with strong bowling and experienced batting lineup.

Our Prediction

Sri Lanka has not played much here in West Indies off lately and so it would be not very easy for them to adapt to the situation. However their recent form in Champions Trophy was good where they went down playing against India in the semi final. The bowling is indeed a very big positive for the team and if they are able to restrict the WI batsmen, the Lankan side has a good chance to take this game home.

On the other hand West Indies boasts of some great match winners but at the same time they have been clearly relying too much on Chris Gayle. Their performance was not very good in the recently concluded Champions Trophy where they failed to qualify for the semi final berth. But they also have the biggest advantage of playing at home and so no one knows the conditions better than them and so they hold an edge over the Lankan side.

So according to us WI has a slight edge and so they should win this first match of the tri series. However rain could play a spoil sport and we would only hope that just like Champions Trophy the matches do not get curtailed or abandoned and the matches are played fully.
