Sri Lanka vs Pakistan – Final ODI match – Asia Cup 2014 – Betting Predictions and Tips

The final of the Asia Cup 2014 will be held between Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Saturday March 8, 2014. The match will be played at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Bangladesh and obviously the winner of the match will be champion of Asia Cup as well.

Sri Lanka (SL)

Sri Lanka (SL) have been terrific in their performance and have played some superb all round cricket in the entire series. Talking about batting, veteran batsman Kumara Sangakkara is the highest runs scorer in the series till now with 248 runs under his belt from four matches. Openers Kusal Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne have also been in decent touch and have given some good starts but they have to be consistent and need to deliver if they have to score good in the final match. The biggest worry for the team is that their one of the best batsmen Mahela Jayawardene is totally out of form and is due for a big one now. Their lower order has been also good with all rounders like Angelo Mathews who is also the skipper and Chathuranga de Silva doing some superb batting to ensure that the team could manage to come out of any sort of troubles.

If we talk about bowling, clearly their best and probably one of the finest fast bowlers of the world Lasitha Malinga has been in superb form with 6 wickets in three matches so far though he has been a little expensive. Off spinner Ajantha Mendis is the highest wicket taker for SL with 9 wickets from four matches and has been economical as well. Other bowlers, Thisara Perera and Chathuranga de Silva have been decent and have chipped in with wickets at regular intervals.

Pakistan has been equally superb in their display and though they may have lost one match but overall their performance has been terrific and worth praising. The openers Ahmed Shehzad and Sharjeel Khan have been consistent though sometime they have been slow on some occasions. In fact the former is the highest run scorer for the team with 223 runs from four matches. Skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has been good and played well when required. Umar Akmal in the middle order has also been in good nick and has been in attacking mode like always. However the biggest surprise of the series is clearly Shahid Afridi who has surely managed to silent his critics with his superb heroic batting against India and Bangladesh. He is known for his attacking batting and here also his strike rate nearly crosses 200 with his capability to hit sixes in last overs cannot be ignored.

For Pakistan, their spinners have done comparatively better as compared to their proclaimed fast bowlers. Off spinners Saeed Ajmal and Mohammed Hafeez have been superb especially the former with 9 wickets from four matches and the later with 5 wickets. Leg spinner Shahid Afridi may not have been among wickets but adds variety and manages to trick the batsmen. Fast bowlers Umar Gul and Junaid Khan have not been in their best touch and have been quite expensive as well.

Our Prediction

Clearly Pakistan looks dominating and have the skill to come out of any situation thanks of in-form Afridi, though Sri Lanka also has some good all rounders in the team. However we feel Pakistan has an upper hand and they will go on to win this match and the series as well and so our favorite is Pakistan to win the Asia Cup title of 2014.
