South Africa vs. Sri Lanka – 5th ODI – Cricket Betting Tips and Predictions

The fifth match of the series could have been much more exciting had South Africa got the chance to chase a modest target of 223 in the second one day match which was decided on Duckworth Lewis on accord of rain. However, only formalities remain as Sri Lanka has taken an unbeaten lead in the five match series with the remaining match to be played in Colombo. After winning the third match of the series, a feat that took almost 20 years for South Africa to accomplish again, the Sri Lankans were too hot to handle for the visitors as they surrendered the next match without too much of a fight from their bowling department.

South Africa

Once again the South African batsmen did not make enough of a good start thanks to Duminy and Hashim Amla as they fell well short of what could have been a match winning target in the 4th One Day. This means that South Africa will play for pride and get one last hurrah before the three-match T20 series gets underway. The team will look to captain AB de Villiers to propel them to another victory that has been far and few in the past twenty years.

De Villiers has failed to make much of an impact with the bat which is one of the reasons for the weak batting performances from this young South African side that includes Q de Kock, Miller and Behardien. Miller showed his class in the third One Day which was enough to help the team to much awaited victory on Sri Lankan shores. Some more Miller magic is needed to lift the batting worries of a team that lacks the experience of Kallis and Smith. Having said this, it is also an excellent opportunity for these young players to show what they are worth as even South Africa would be looking towards building a team for the next World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand.

The bowlers have done a fairly good job for South Africa, but some more consistency would be just what the team needs at such a desperate time. The lack of Dale Steyn has not seemed to bother a bit to the overall performance at occasion but lack of penetration has also hurt the team while trying to get the opposition out.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka on the other hand is looking to try out a couple of new youngsters having already won the series. However, the batting unit still looks strong with the retention of top order players Kumar Sangakkara and T Dilshan. Kusal Perrera will get another look-in for the final match of the series as he has been recalled along with opener Karunaratne. Vimukthi Perera is a left arm fast medium bowler and Chaturanga de Silva is a left hand spin all rounder that have also been included in the squad of fifteen for the final match of the series. It would be interesting to see if either of them gets the chance to play the match. Ajantha Mendis, the leading wicket taker in the series, will once again be the major threat for the South African batsmen.

Our Prediction

We believe that this is gonna be a really tight match, where it will come down to the wire. However, we feel that Sri Lanka might have a slight advantage and believe they will take the series from South Africa. When the odds on them winning is the highest, meaning the bookmakers have them as the underdogs, it seems to be a good bet for us.
