South Africa vs Australia – 2nd Test – Australia tour of South Africa 2013-14 – Betting Predictions and Tips

South Africa will take on Australia in the second test match that will be played from Thursday February 20, 2014 after having lost the first test match in the three test match series. The match will be played at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth and will begin at 10.20 AM local time and 14.00 IST.

South Africa (SA)

SA is a superb team at home and recently they even defeated the Indian team quite convincingly showing that they are nothing less than a top test team currently. But their performance was not at par when they played the rising Australians in the first test match and as a result lost the first test at home.

Talking about batting, clearly AB de Villiers has been in the top form in this season and in the last match as well as he top scored for the team in both innings with 91 and 48 runs. The openers Greame Smith who is also the skipper and Petersen have not managed to get the partnership and have got out cheaply which has created pressure for the middle order batsmen. Hashim Amla is also a terrific player and he will be expected to bat well in the match and can go on to make a big score. Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy are also good batsmen and they would be expected to score in the match as well and provide the much required strength in the middle order and support to AB. However it can be clearly seen that the team is missing the solid batting of Jacques Kallis who retired from test match format recently playing last match against India.

In bowling, Dale Steyn is the pick of the bowlers with 6 wickets in the match and he will be expected to lead in the second match as well. Other fast bowlers Philander and Morne Morkel couldn’t impress much and will be expected to take quick wickets. Again Kallis is being missed and it is difficult to understand who will fill his place in the team.

Australia

Australian performance has been top notch and having defeated SA at home is a commendable task. The batting has been superb as three out of seven batsmen managed to score a century in the match. Opener David Warner made 115 runs in second innings, Shaun Marsh and Steve Smith made 148 and 100 runs respectively in first innings. The team managed to score almost 400 runs in first innings and declared second innings at 290 runs for just 4 wickets down. Skipper Michael Clarke is also in terrific form and he will surely comeback in this match and can score big.

Talking about bowling, clearly Mitchell Johnson has been firing from all cylinders with total 12 wickets in the match and rattled the decent batting lineup of SA. Other bowlers Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle bowled well and took wickets when given a chance and played a good support role to Johnson.

Our Prediction

Australia has been in top form after having defeated arch rivals England in Ashes series and now they are up against another strong team South Africa and the team clearly looks stronger when compared to hosts.

On the other hand South Africa is playing at home and they have a big advantage and it will not be easy for Australia to win the match.

However we feel that Australia has the upper hand and will win the match and series.
