Northern Districts vs Southern Express, Champions League T20 2014 – Cricket Betting Tips

Champions League T20 gets underway with the first of the qualifying matches between Northern Districts from New Zealand and Southern Express from Sri Lanka. CLT20 is a premiere tournament since domestics T20 teams from across the world participate in it. A Pakistani team will also be participating in this year’s competition. Hefty prize money will be on everyone’s mind as well. Northern Districts is one of the favorites to make it to the main draw thanks to their players with international experience. Their experience in Indian conditions will hold them in good stead as they make their way to the group stages.

The bowling attack for Northern Districts is well known with the big names of Tim Southee,Trent Boult and veteran all-rounder Scott Styris. Styris has immense experience of playing in different T20 leagues across the globe and has become somewhat of a specialist in the shortest version of the game. His gentle pace is just correct on Indian pitches where there is not much help for the fast bowlers. He has a lot of variations and could do the trick for the team when it comes to bowling in the middle overs. Tim Southee has been playing IPL so he has the experience of playing T20 cricket in India as well.

Southern Express has yet to play a game in India and they are already on the backfoot since they go into the tournament without two of their biggest stars. Lasith Malinga was their captain and premiere fast bowler who will be playing for his IPL team, Mumbai Indians. Tilakratne Dilshan also will not be playing for the team on accord of personal reasons. This will certainly dent the chances of Southern Express in making it to the group stages. Dilshan is an explosive batsmen and a very handy bowler in Indian conditions. This is a huge blow for the team just before their first match against Northern Districts.

Farveez Maharoof is the most experienced in the side and will be the key figure for Souther Districts with both bat and ball. He has the experience of bowling on Indian pitches and will be relied upon heavily in crucial situations to bail the team out. However, the batting lacks the punch with the exception of Kusal Perrera. Northern Districts should have the upper hand in this match and get off to a winning start without too much trouble against the Sri Lankan team.
