Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders – Match 1 – Indian Premier League 7 – Betting Predictions and Tips

Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will play against the 2012 crown winners Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the opening match of the seventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 7). The match will be played at a neutral venue at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi and will be played on Wednesday April 16, 2014 at 8 PM IST.

Mumbai Indians (MI)

MI is the crown winner of 2013 but this time we will not get to see the God of Cricket Sachin Tendulkar playing in the side as he has retired from all forms of cricket including the IPL. However he will be the mentor and so we can surely see some action from him also happening in the season. The team will be led by Rohit Sharma and he has been in good form after being the second highest scorer for India in the recently concluded World cup T20. The team would welcome the inclusion of Mr.Cricket Michael Hussey in the side and this would also give more strength to their already strong batting unit consisting of players like Keiron Pollard, Ambati Rayudu, Corey Anderson, etc. Another great inclusion in the team is explosive Corey Anderson and he is one of the best all-rounders today in T20 format.

Talking about bowling, the unit is expected to be led by one of the best fast bowlers Lasitha Malinga along with left arm fast bowler Zaheer Khan. Spin department is also equally striong with bowlers like veteran off spinner Harbhajan Singh and left arm spinner Pragyan Ojha in the side. All-rounders like Pollard, Corey, etc would be expected to chip in with some useful spells.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

Led by Gautam Gambhir, the team has some new faces which will give more strength to already strong unit of KKR. Though Gautam may be out of the team as of now, but he has been contributing immensely towards the success of KKR and his good form will surely give a big boost to the team. The team has some great hitters like Yusuf Pathan though he could not produce the knocks he is capable of in the last season. One of the best and most experienced all-rounders Jacques Kallis will also be expected to play a very important role to the success of the team. Batsmen like Robin Uthappa and Manish Pandey will be seen with KKR and they would give lot of energy and stability to the team. Malvinder Bisla and Debabrata Das are also expected to play crucial roles.

If we analyse the bowling department, the team has some fine bowlers and overall looks like a good bowling unit. Pacers like Morne Morkel, Andre Russel and Umesh Yadav have joined the team and it would be great to see them bowling in tandem and how captain utilizes them. Talking about spinners, there are some great names like Sunil Naraine (who was the only bowler retained by KKR), Piyush Chawla and Shakib Al Hasan in the side and they all are capable of taking wickets with some great bowling.

Our Prediction

Overall the competition looks fierce with not much to choose between the two sides as both teams have a good overall unit with some great names and some new names as part of their lineup. The match is at neutral venue so no home advantage for any team will be there by MI will look to defend their crown whereas KKR would like to repeat the fear of 2012. However we feel MI have a slight advantage and they are our favorite to win this opening cracker of the season.
