Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder – Twenty20 Big Bash League 2013-14 – Betting Predictions and Tips

The sixth round of the Australian Big Bash League is about to begin with the encounter between the hosts Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder. The 21st T20 match will be played on January 11, 2014 and will commence at 1.50 PM local time. Both the teams are at the bottom two positions currently with Hobart at seventh place with 3 points and Thunder last as they are yet to open their account this year.

Hobart Hurricanes (HH)

HH have not been in the best of the form and have won just one out of the four matches played in the series. The team is led by Tim Paine who has not been in the best of the forms and has managed to just score 68 runs in 5 matches so far. The highest run scorer for the team has been Travis Birt as he managed to score 102 runs from 5 matches at a healthy strike rate of almost 140. The team has some big names in batting such as Owais Shah who plays for England and Shoaib Malik playing for Pakistan in the middle order with lots of experience in international cricket in this format. However the team would surely miss the batting of George Bailey who has been called by the national team.

In terms of bowling, Ben Laughlin has been decent with 5 wickets in last 5 matches but has been expensive with an economy of around 9. They will surely miss the services of Xavier Doherty who is also called by the national team. All other bowlers have been decent and Shoaib Malik and Ben Hilfenhaus will be expected to play vital role with the experience that they bring along with them.

Sydney Thunder (ST)

ST has had an awful season so far as they have not managed to get one victory till now. it becomes all the more awful as the team is led by one of the best T20 batsmen of the world Mike Hussey and he has been personally in great nick. Mike has scored 226 runs in his last 5 matches with strike rate of around 134 and highest score of 85. But the biggest setback for the team is that three of its top batsmen, Michael Clarke (captain of the Australian test team), all rounder David Warner and Sri Lankan terrific opening batsman Tilakratne Dilshan are not playing this match as they would be representing their respective national teams. In such a scenario, the responsibility on Hussey increases manifold and he will have to give his more than 100 percent to help team register their first win of the season.

In terms of bowling, the team does not have much big names expect for Ajantha Mendis from Sri Lanka but he has not created his magic yet and is due any time now. Another ace bowler for the team is Dirk Nennes who has managed to take 7 wickets from last 5 matches and is also the most successful bowler for the team as of now. Lot would depend on these two and all other bowlers would be expected to play a supporting role.

Our Prediction

HH would be keener to win this match as a victory would help them jump to fourth position directly and their chances to moving to the finals would become easier. On the other hand, ST would like to win this match to give some boost to their morale. Hobart Hurricanes are our favourite to win this match.
