England vs Australia 5th Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The fifth and the final test match between the arch-rivals England and Australia of the Ashes Series 2013 will start from Wednesday August 21, 2013. The match will be played at Oval, England. The match will be played from August 21 to 25 and will start at 3.30 PM IST. England has already won the series 3-0 and therefore the hosts retain the Ashes trophy.

England

England has already won the series and so this time they have decided to include and give some other players a chance as well to play at the top level. The surprise inclusions are all-rounder Chris Woakes who is uncapped at Test level and left-arm spinner Simon Kerrigan who is yet to play any match at international level. The good news for the team is that Kevin Pietersen is back in action and may play in this match. Overall the batting has been good but two key players Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott have not scored enough runs whereas on the other side Ian Bell has been on roll. He has scored an impressive three centuries and two half-centuries in the series so far and has been one of the major deciding factors between the two sides.

In terms of bowling, the team has been doing extremely well which has been led well by James Anderson and Greame Swann. The ground at Oval generally supports the spinners and has spinning track, chances are that the team may play with two spinners in this match. Tim Bresnan is out of this match due to injury and so it may give way for the new right hand pace bowler Chris Tremlett with the height of 6’7”. Stuart Broad has also been good and has picked wickets at regular intervals and some times at a very crucial moments went on to help England win the match.

Australia

Australia would surely feel that they have never been in such a bad situation earlier and this time they have been badly exposed by the opponents. The batting has been a big let down with no player except for the captain Micheal Clarke and opener Chris Rogers really making any material contribution to the team scores. The likes of David Warner, Shane Watson and Phil Hughes did not turn out to be of any help for the side and their batting was just nothing then a big disaster which was very much visible in the second innings of the last match where the team just collapsed and failed to achieve a decent score to win the match.

In bowling, the team has lacked consistency and not so they have not been able to match with the English side at all. Peter Siddle has by far been the best performer for Australia whereas other well known bowlers like Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris have been good but have failed to live upto the expectation of what they are capable of. In spin department, Nathan Lyon is more experienced than the young Ashton Agar though he was not very effective in the last match in spite of the fact that Swann of England has managed to get quite a few wickets under his belt.

Our Prediction

England would just want to win this match to take the 4-0 lead which is nothing less than history. Australia has nothing to lose but they will look to salvage their left pride and give in everything to save this match in any manner. However England has a slight edge again and should win the match.
