England vs Australia 4th Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The fourth test match between the arch-rivals England and Australia of the Ashes Series 2013 will be played from this Friday at Chester-le-Street, England. The match will be played from August 9 to 13 and will start at 3.30 PM IST. England lead the test series 2-0 and with last match drawn, the hosts retain the Ashes trophy.

England team has looked solid in almost all departments with their each player contributing at different times thus reducing over dependency on a particular player. Though the skipper Alastair Cook and Jonathon Trott have not been in the best of the forms, they are surely capable of firing one as it is long due now. However, Ian Bell has been in superb form and is currently the highest run scorer in the series. He has already scored 381 runs from 3 matches at an average of 76.20. Another star performer is Joe Root who has already amassed 242 runs in his debut Ashes series. Kevin Pietersen has further solidified the batting and it was his century in the last match that was literally the reason for not letting the Aussies win the match.

The bowling department has done equally well, in fact it would not be wrong to say that they have been better than the batting department. Off spinner Graeme Swann has been most impressive and has taken highest 19 wickets till now in the series. James Anderson has also been in superb form with 15 wickets under his belt already and looks more lethal than ever. Other bowlers Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan have been also good and chipped in with wickets at crucial times. In fact the batting of Stuart Broad has also helped England considerably. Monty Panesar who had a terrific record at Old Trafford with 25 wickets did not get a chance to play and it is still not clear if he will get a chance in this match.

Australia would be feeling better having not letting England win the third match after two losses but at the same time would be disappointed to not being able to win after coming into the winning position almost. Contrarily, the batting has been led by the skipper with Micheal Clarke making superb 187 in the last match that helped Australia scored massive in the first innings and played a crucial knock in the second innings as well. Chris Rogers and Steve Smith have also been good but have clicked in bits and pieces. The team has some great batsmen such as Shane Watson and David Warner but they have failed to click and this is what has cost the team dearly.

In bowling, the team has lacked consistency and so they have tried different combinations in the matches so far in both pace and spin departments. Peter Siddle has by far been the best performer for Australia with 16 wickets from 3 matches. Other key bowlers like Mitchell Johnson and Ryan Harris have been good but have failed to live upto the expectation of what they are capable of. In spin department, Nathan Lyon is more experienced than the young Ashton Agar though he was not very effective in the last match.

Our Prediction

England would like to go for kill and try to win this match and series as well whereas Australia would take heart from last match and put more efforts.

However we feel England has a slight edge again and should win the match and the series.
