England vs Australia 3rd Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The third test match of the Ashes Series 2013 will be played between the arch-rivals England and Australia at Old Trafford, England. The match will be played from August 1 to 5 and will start at 3.30 PM IST. England lead the test series 2-0.

England

England would be high on confidence after a hug win in the last test match by 347 runs. The batting and bowling both have looked solid and have in fact dominated almost all sessions in both matches till now. Opener and skipper Alastair Cook has not been in the best of the forms and he will be looking to strike form while his opening partner Joe Root, who on the contrary has been superb and scored a terrific 180 at Lord’s in the last match. Jonathan Trott may have missed out on a century in the last match but would like to carry over form and score well in this match as well. Ian Bell has been the most successful English batsman at this venue scoring 486 runs in five Test matches at an impressive average of 81 with two centuries and three half-centuries under his belt. The biggest setback for the team is the injury to star batsman Kevin Pietersen, who could be replaced by James Taylor from Nottinghamshire, who scored an impressive ton against the Australian attack last week playing for Sussex.

In terms of bowling, James Anderson who is the local boy will be spearheading the attack. Stuart Broad will partner him with the new ball. Both the fast bowlers have bowled well and have taken wickets in bits and pieces. Off spinner Graeme Swann has been most impressive and took 9 wickets in the last match. However the surprise inclusion is Monty Panesar who has terrific record at Old Trafford with 25 wickets including three five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul from just three matches

Australia

Australian team has been quite disappointing and in fact many experts and ex-players of Australia have also termed it as one of the weakest teams in the history of Australian cricket. There is nothing much to talk about the batting inspite of having names like Shane Watson, David Warner, Micheal Clarke, Phil Hughes. Clarke has been batting well but he has failed to get support from other batsmen of the team. In the tour game against Sussex, Ed Cowan scored two half-centuries, Steven Smith scored a century and Phil Hughes scored 84 in the first innings which shows sign of return of form but still far from best. The suspense over in-form David Warner remains.

In bowling, the biggest setback for the team is the absence of in-form James Pattinson. The team may decide to pick Jackson Bird as possible replacement and also pick up Mitchell Starc who picked up five wickets in the first Test. The spin bowling department will be headed by not-so-experienced 19-year-old Ashton Agar.

Our Prediction

England cannot afford to get complacent and will be wary of the fact that the team has never won the third Test match in the history of Ashes till now.

On the other hand, Australia would look to comeback and would have a point to prove to the critics who have almost written off the team. They will surely put in all efforts to win this match and obviously save the series also before it is too late to fight.

England has a slight edge and we feel they would win this match and take the series as well.
