England vs Australia 2nd Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The second test between arch rivals England and Australia will start from Thursday December 5 2013. The match will be played from December 5 to 9 at the Adelaide Oval ground in Australia. Australia lead the five match test series 1-0.

England

England’s batting has been dismal in the last match and taking into the account their performances in the past one year, they have definitely not played to the potential. In both the innings, the team got out for less than 200 in each innings whereas on the other hand the Australian team managed to score almost 700 runs in both innings combined. Skipper and opener Alistair Cook was the only batsman to score 50+ score in the last match for England but still he has not been in the best form as he has not scored a century in last 6 test matches. Lot is expected from the most experienced batsman Kevin Pietersen but he also managed to get just 44 runs in last match. Ian Bell who has been in superb nick also failed to live upto the expectations and could not even exceed the score of 50 in both innings combined. Other batsmen have been equally dismal and they need to up their ante if they have to win this match.

The bowling has been equally surprisingly woeful as the bowlers could not contain the opposition and in fact could not even get them all out in the second innings. Stuart Broad was the only stand out bowler with 6 wickets in first innings and 2 in the second and did some damage to the opposition. James Anderson and Tremlett managed to take total 2 and 4 wickets respectively in the match but lot would be expected from them to support Broad.

Australia

Led by Michael Clarke, the team has shown some splendid all-round performance and has won the first match quite convincingly. Leading from the front, he along with David Warner scored centuries each in the second innings which gave the team a total of 401 runs. Shane Watson needs to pick up form and take up responsibility as a senior player as we all know what he is capable of. Wicket-keeper Brad Haddin has been also impressive with half centuries in both innings with score of 94 and 53. Mitchell Johnson has also shown some great batting ability and even managed to score a half century in the first innings.

Talking about bowling, Johnson again stands out with total of 9 wickets in the match that put the opposition on back foot. Ryan Harris has supported well with 5 wickets. Other bowlers have bowled well within limits but this ground is different and with pitch supporting batsman, they could be tested and may get exposed in this match.

Our Prediction

The Oval Adelaide is known for high scoring matches and this match will be no exception. We can expect 500-run innings provided both the teams play to their potential. There was a scare that Australian skipper may not play the match as he injured himself during the practice but he returned to practice and he will play the match.

England have a lot at stake and they would like to come back and win this match in order to keep their morale high and stay in the competition. We also expect that England team will come back strongly and so we believe that they have a slight advantage and could win this match to level the series 1-1.
