England vs Australia 2nd Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

Here we go again! It is the eve of another test match in the Ashes series that has promised a lot to the viewers if the first test match is of any indication to go by. Agreed, the first test match was filled with wrong decisions and blatant cheating according to some traditionalists of the game, but the end result was a thriller of a test match that no one will forget for a long time to come. Both teams can take a lot of positives especially the Australian team who were supposed to lose by a 4-0 margins predicted by cricket pundits. It is surely going to be a great second series.

The fallout of the first test match will certainly be seen in the form of increased intensity from both sides as the first game could have gone to either team on the last day. There have been a few heroes for Australia namely Ashton Agar and Peter Siddle. There would certainly be added pressure on the nineteen year old Agar who will play his first match at the home of cricket, Lord’s. He would definitely want to do well but rest assured England management will have a plan to tackle him especially Alistair Cook who lost his wicket to the young man.

The player to watch out could well be Steve Finn, who did not have such a great first game. However, he would be thrilled and excited of his prospects playing at his home ground come match day. Finn has always done well at Lord’s which will certainly act as a confidence booster. With James Anderson in prime form, good support from Finn could certainly spell doom for the visitors who are themselves struggling with a brittle batting lineup. The onus would still lie on the England bowlers to not let the Australian batsmen get away like they did in both innings of the first test match which included a record 10th wicket partnership from Hughes and Agar.

The main worry lies with their batsmen who have failed to stand up and be counted in the face of adversity. There have been glimpses but those would be not enough to help their team win the match. A record breaking tenth wicket partnership counted for not much in the context of the game in the end. The top order specifically Shane Watson has to lead from the front to provide the platform from which the other batsmen can consolidate. Considering the recent Mickey Arthur controversial comments over Watson’s image and underperformance in the recent past, be prepared for a fight back from this comeback man.

Our Prediction

Once again, England starts as favorites as they look a better overall unit. They would want to stamp their authority and dominance against a new look Australian team that lacks the experience to perform in big moments. The toss can also play a role as well with the team batting first looking to seize the early moisture on the pitch and get some wickets. Otherwise, the bowling team could be in for a long day at work. Reverse swing is expected to play a part which means England’s seamers would well be licking their fingers at the prospects of another Ashes Test victory.
