England vs Australia 1st Test – Ashes Series – Betting Predictions and Tips

The mother of all battles and the oldest known rivalry in the history of cricket is set to begin tomorrow on July 10, 2013. The first test match of the Ashes Series 2013 will be played between the arch-rivals England and Australia at Nottingham, England. The match will be played from July 10 – July 14 and will start at 3.30 PM IST. The series will see four test matches being played at different venues till August 13, 2013.

England is in good form and is led by the in-form captain batsman Alastair Cook who opens the batting for the team. The team has some good batsmen in the side such as Joe Root, Jonathon Trott and Ian Bell. The return of Kevin Pietersen would also boost the confidence of the team as he has a terrific average of above 52 against Australia which is above his normal batting average of under 50. The bowling also looks superb with James Anderson expected to lead from the front with his some superb swing balling capabilities. Other fast bowlers Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnen are also equally good bowlers and can demolish the opponent on their day. Off spinner Greame Swann is also expected to play a crucial role in the match considering his recent success.

The team is led by Michael Clarke who is also in good nick and has been quite instrumental in the performance of the team. The team has some great batsmen such as David Warner, Shane Watson, Ed Cowan who can demolish the opponent if they stay on the crease for a very long time. However the worry for the Australians has been the form of these players. They have been quite good in IPL but have failed to perform in Champions Trophy held recently. Shane Watson is a terrific all rounder and a lot would be expected from him to deliver and lead from the front. The bowling lacks the sting of what Australian bowlers are capable of but still they have some decent bowlers such as Peter Siddle, James Faulkner, Mitchell Starc and the spinner Nathan Lyon. Mitchell Johnson is not there in the team and it may affect the team performance.

Our Prediction

Australia clearly lacks the venom and has not been in the best of the forms off lately in any of the versions of the game played in last couple of years. In fact the team lost 0-4 to India in test series played in India whereas England was able to dominate the Indian side and won the series in India.

England looks much stronger and has been consistently performing in the last of couple of years. Also they are playing at home and so they would like to take full advantage of the situation and the ground.

So England seems to have a clear edge over the Australian team but obviously this is the battle of pride and so no team can be considered as really light and both would give in their best to restore the pride and gain psychological edge for the next matches of the series. According to us the match should have an outcome and we feel there is very less chance of it being drawn. So our favorite for the match is England.

Winner: England, 1.73 @ William Hill
