Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK has played most consistently and superbly till now. The team is well led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is not only marshalling his resources superbly but also in fantastic batting from and in full mood to devastate just any bowler of any team currently. The batting has been solid by Michael Hussey with 450 runs from 9 matches and is placed second in the list of highest run makers in this season. Suresh Raina has come to the party and is now picking up pace as the matches getting crucial. He has also scored 259 from 9 matches played with 2 crucial half centuries. Dhoni has been in devastation mood and has scored 298 runs at a strike rate of over 170 till now. The other batsmen have been average and have performed in patches but not the let the team down and have rose to the occasion when really required. The bowling has also been decent with Dwayne Bravo being the highest wicket taker for the team with 16 wickets and is at second position in the list of highest wicket takers in the season. Chris Morris and Mohit Sharma have been the surprise element and have taken wickets at regular intervals. The spinners, Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, have also done well for the team.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP)

KXIP may have lost the last match against Mumbai Indians but they got pretty close and they would be motivated with the performance and would feel that they can give a fight to CSK as well. Finally Adam Gilchrist decided to drop himself because of his awful form and so the team was led by David Hussey. The skipper and David Miller have been the batting stars who have performed most consistently till now for the team and have scored 199 from 5 matches and 200 runs from 9 matches respectively till now. Mandeep Singh showed what he is capable of but failed to click in the last match. Shaun Marsh got a chance to play but he also did not really make much of difference to the team and got out for 10 in last match. The other batsmen have been average and not much scoring has been done by them. The bowling has been pretty good with Azhar Mahmood and Praveen Kumar leading from the front with 11 and 10 wickets respectively. Parvinder Awana and Manpreet Gony have also been decent but not their best. The biggest disappointment has been Piyush Chawla who has not really created any impact with his bowling and given away far too many runs.

Our Prediction

CSK clearly has an advantage here because of the position and the form in which they are in. For CSK the ground hardly matters and they can play equally well at home and away. KXIP will have to fight hard if they have to defeat the numero uno side and at their home. CSK is our favorite to win this match and continue to lead at the top.
