England take on Sri Lanka in Group A ODI match of the Champions Trophy 2013 on Thursday June 13, 2013. The match will be played at the Oval at 3 PM IST. Both the teams will play their second match of the series.

England has started the series in fashion after defeating their Ashes rival Australia by 48 runs. The batting looked in great form with almost all batsmen getting starts in the last match. Opener Ian Bell top scored with 91 runs and gave a decent start with the skipper Alastair Cook who scored 30 runs. Jonathan Trott and Ravi Bopara also played well making 43 and 46 runs respectively. The innings of Bopara was important as he made 46 of just 37 balls and helped the team get the score of 269 in their 50 overs. The bowling was also good as they managed to restrict Australia to 221 in 50 overs. James Anderson was the pick of the bowlers and he took 3 wickets and gave away just 30 runs in 10 overs. Stuart Broad also bowled economically giving away just 35 runs and 1 wicket. All the bowlers managed to take wickets though spinner Joe Tredwell was a little expensive and gave away 51 runs in 10 overs.

Sri Lanka (SL)

SL has not had a good start to the tournament after they lost their opening match to New Zealand in a low scoring thriller by one wicket. The batting was very disappointing as the team good manage to score only 138 in less than 38 overs. Kumara Sangakkara was the only player who scored 68 runs and helped the team to get a decent total. None of the other batsmen could even get a start and only two players except Sangakkara could manage a double digit score. However their disappointing batting was covered by exceptional bowling of Lasitha Malinga as he took 4 crucial wickets and gave away just 34 runs in 10 overs. Eranga also bowled well after he got both openers out cheaply but conceded 45 runs. Dilshan bowled a tight line and gave away just 12 runs in 6.3 overs and managed to take a wicket. Overall the bowling looks good but batting needs to click to help bowlers defend a total.

Out of the 50 ODIs played between two teams, there has been not much to choose between the two as England has won 26 matches and Sri Lanka has won 24.

In their two meetings earlier in Champions Trophy, England has won both the matches, though Sri Lanka has been the joint winner of the trophy in 2002 but England has never won this tournament.

At Oval, England has played 38 matches and won 22 and lost 15 till now. Sri Lanka has played six times of which they have won just two and lost 4.

Our Prediction

England looks a better side in terms of any department and also the fact that they are playing at home is a big advantage to them. A win for England will almost seal their semi-final berth.

Sri Lanka has not been in the best of the forms and the last match was a bad one and they would like to forget it completely and come out and start afresh. They will have to win this match to stay alive in the tournament.

We believe England has a clear advantage and so our bet is on England to win this match.
