Champions Trophy 2013 – India vs South Africa – Betting Predictions and Tips

The first ODI match of the Champions Trophy 2013 will be played between India and South Africa in a Group B match on June 6, 2013 at Cardiff. There are eight teams participating and are divided in two groups of four each. Every match is a do-or-die situation as they will be playing just one against each other within the group and top two teams of both groups will play in semi final.

Team India has won both its warm-up matches played against Sri Lanka and Australia with some superb batting and bowling. Continuing his good form from the just concluded IPL, Dinesh Karthik played superbly in both warm-up matches and scored back to back centuries and helping India win the match after some early wickets when the openers failed to their job in both matches. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and the skipper MS Dhoni have also been in good form and would like to play well to help team win the match. The openers need to work hard with Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan both having tough times playing in overseas conditions. The bowling looks a bit inexperienced but Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma bowled well in the practice games. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Ashwin look probable to play and all-rounders like Irfan Pathan and Jadeja will have to compete to get the place.

South Africa (SA)

SA has some terrific players in its side and they can turn to be match winners at any point of time. Led by one of the finest finishers of the game, AB de Villiers, the team looks solid would like to win this match to get a positive start to the tournament. Batsmen like Hashim Amla, David Miller, Colin Ingram, JP Duminy, Faf du Plessis and Robin Peterson have got reputation of good batting and can turn the match any time. The bowling also looks strong being led by one of the fastest bowlers currently, Dale Steyn. However the sad news for the team is that he is down with some strain and so he is doubtful to play in this match. Lot will depend on Morne Morkel and Lonwabo Tsotsobe to bowl well and take wickets.

Our Prediction

The Indian team has been recently under the cloud of spot fixing and players like Sreesanth already being arrested, it would be difficult for the team to ignore the controversy and concentrate fully and manage to win the game, though they have won the practice games held till now. Also the fact that they are playing for the first time after the implementation of some of the new rules of ODI cricket outside the subcontinent will also be a challenge for the team.

The Proteas on the other hand will miss their key players like Jacques Kallis and Dale Steyn and this makes the side a little brittle and weak. They have some good batsmen but the bowling looks weak in the absence of their spearhead.

Going by history, India have a good record against SA in Champions Trophy with 2-0 lead in 2 matches played head-to-head till now. The Indian team looks stronger and also a strong contender to get into the semi final and so for us Team India should win this exciting opener and take a lead in the group.
