h3>Australia

The two time Champions Trophy winners Australia have never looked so vulnerable before and have not been in the best of the forms off lately. They even lost their last one day series against India in India miserably 0-5. To add to the woes, the skipper Michael Clarke is out of this match because of prolonged back injury. In his absence, the skipper of the team would be George Bailey. However, some of their key batsmen, Shane Watson and David Warner have shown their form in the recently concluded IPL tournament. In fact Shane Watson has started bowling again which is a good sign for the team. In terms of bowling, there are some good bowlers who again performed superbly in the IPL such as James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson who were among the top wicket takers in the tournament.

England

England have been in the good form off lately and even won the last T20 world cup played. The team is being led by Alastair Cook who has been in good nick in batting and has been among runs in past year or so. The other batsmen, Ian Bell, Jonathan Trott, Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara and Jos Buttler are also capable of some good hitting and have been performing as and when required. The bowling department is also quite strong and consistent and has bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Tim Bresnan, James Tredwell, Steven Finn and Graeme Swann who will be able to exploit the English conditions quite well. Overall the unit looks stronger and is in decent form currently.

Our Prediction:

Historically Australia has been the best of the sides and it has been quite difficult to beat them at any ground but the current side clearly looks brittle and there are not much players on whom the team could rely on. Their form has been patchy and in the practice match against India they got out for just 65 runs in a bid to achieve the target of 309 runs.

England is playing at its home and so this will be a very big advantage for them. England has won 23 out of 37 matches played recently and lost just 11 matches playing at home. Though they lost the ODI series against New Zealand just before the Champions Trophy, they are still a side to beat and would like to make a mark by winning the first match.

Comparing the two sides and going by the home advantage, it clearly looks that England has an upper hand over Australia and so they are our favorites to win this match and take the lead in the table.
